A midweek post about the state of American politics

Well the results are in and democrats have kept control of the senate and only lost eight seats in the house. While the red wave may have been more like a tiny ripple, and this may have been a huge relief to a lot of liberal voters, there is no reason for them to celebrate.  Democrats still lost (have 0 chance of winning) the house.  This will stymie, if not completely halt, any liberal agenda for the next two years.  There will be no debt relief.  There will be no legislation to protect women's reproductive rights.  There will be no election reform or voter protection laws.  The supreme court will remain stacked in favor of a religious minority. The country will be unable to make progress until we see another democratic majority in all levels and branches of government.   Had senators Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema done the right thing and not stalled the democratic agenda for the last two years we would not have lost the house. We would have had much more going for us than not losing the senate.  Why are democrats so weak that they cannot play hard ball with these corrupted republican asshats?  Why are we letting republicans continue to change their state election laws to prevent people of color from voting?

Why can't indebted Americans get pissed off enough at U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman to kick down his doors and demand his resignation?

Why is it that women don't care enough about their reproductive rights to take up arms and surround the supreme court demanding the resignation of Barret, Kavanaugh, Gorush, Alito, and Thomas? I hate knowing that the only people who will actually get pissed off enough over protecting their rights are idiots, who are not under threat of having their rights stripped in the first place, who would compromise the integrity of our democracy by throwing a coup when their candidate did not win the election.  Yet, when the people who actually threaten our democracy end up in charge and start stripping people of their rights, there is no response from the left besides "go out and vote" and "peaceful protest is the answer".  When has a peaceful protest been effective in the last five decades?  If the supreme court justices who overturned Roe V Wade suddenly had thousands of pissed off and armed women and allies surrounding their offices and residences they might think twice about what they did. They might reconsider their decision.  The only thing that removes a supreme court justice from office is resignation or death.  I am not saying they should die, but if they don't resign they should face the real possibility that many people (men and women) want them dead.

To clarify, I am expressing my right to free speech.  I am not advocating violence against anyone.  If you have a problem with what I say, then maybe you don't really support women.  Maybe you would prefer that the majority of educated Americans remain indebted to their own government for most of their lives.  Maybe you never want the economy to recover from the pandemic because people don't have enough money to spend on fun things after they pay their debts.

Honestly, I am glad I live in China so I won't have to deal with the outcome of US politics for a while.  I make more money than I know what to do with and can easily cover my debts.  I am very blessed, but still disappointed by this loss. This loss of the house, blocking of loan forgiveness, and many events that preceded it have me concerned for the future of my country.

I still managed to vote and plan to vote in all upcoming elections despite the cost to ship my ballot.  My state did not end up with Oz and Mastriano.  So for that I am relieved.   I am reassured that the orange menace received a firm rebuke in this last election.  I am overjoyed that the GOPs elected officials and right wing media is turning metaphorical knives on their own as they look for someone to blame for their lackluster performance.

While there is much to be relieved over.  There is little to celebrate. Dems lost the house, and our country will continue to spiral downward until sensible people with integrity take control again.
