DongGuan 200th Hash, AP Prep Week, & A Trip to Xunliao Bay
I have a lot to share since my last post since it has been a while. Last Saturday, April 22nd, was the DongGuan kennel's 200th run. As such, the Shekou H3 took a trip to DongGuan to participate. It was a great run. We set out early at 12:45 (which is early for hashers) and arrived at 2:45 via a chartered a bus. The run was mostly street runs with very little shiggy. We ran by the river and through parks as well as through an old looking neighborhood with some dilapidated buildings and cool murals.
This week was AP prep week so I taught very little new content. Most of class was dedicated to study hall in preparation for the big tests.
On Wednesday I got coffee at a new place near work called "Clip Joint". They had good coffee, but even better they had a cute bulldog that loved scritch scratches.
On Friday, after work, I hit the gym and then grabbed a bite at the street fair just outside my gym.
Once I had satisfied myself with the street food at this fair I went home where I met Faye and we caught a cab to Xunliao Bay in Huizhou. It was a long cab ride but train tickets were all booked up so we endured the traffic and erratic driving of our cabbie and made it there in relatively decent time.
On Saturday morning we woke up naturally, got breakfast in the area, walked around, and went to the beach.
While on the beach I tried dragon eye fruit while we discussed finding a different beach for the next day. It wasn't that Xunliao was bad, it was that we wanted a bit of adventure and an chance to enjoy somewhere with smaller crowds. We decided to visit an island called Sanjiaozhou and took some time to figure out how to get there via boat.
I rode the mighty crab and we joined their kind.
After the beach and pool we got a seafood dinner and rode around on a rental e-bike.
On Sunday morning we got up relatively early and I made the mistake of getting us breakfast at MacDonald's. It took 45 minutes to get our food. So much for fast food.
We set out to get to Sanjiaozhou shortly after noon. We waited in line for a while after getting our tickets but were soon on a speedboat to the island. We arrived there at around 1:30 and had a pretty good time. The place was still crowded but it was not as bad as the mainland. There was a trail that lead around the island to various viewing platforms from which I took some pictures. After our walk we checked out the beach, got a late lunch, and Faye got a tan while I played guitar on the sand.
Sanjiaozhou has some neat rock formations all over the island that are caused by erosion from wind and water.
We left the island shortly before 6pm and when we got back we opted to rent another e-bike and ride it to another beach for dinner.
Monday morning was our last day in Xunliao so we got a local breakfast and then check out of our hotel. We took a cab to the train station in Huidong and then took a train back to Shenzhen. It was my first time taking a train in China. It was a somewhat stressful experience because I forgot my passport but Faye helped me sort it out by calling the station in advance and I printed my passport and ticket info.
I had a wonderful trip with her. There were no arguments and we experienced pure relaxation and enjoyment.
