Faye Moved In, Halloween Trail Got Washed Away, Been Grinding at Work and Gym

It has been a while since my last post but besides a few small things, and one major thing, life has continued with little to update.  

After our last trip during Golden Week Faye spend a few days a week at our new apartment and would periodically go back to her place in Bao'an to do laundry and bring over small bags of items.

On October 18th I found a cool bug and took a photo.  It is called Batocera rubus and its common name is rubber root borer.

On October 19th our school started to decorate for Halloween.  They went with a Harry Potter theme and it turned out pretty good. 


On October 28th I laid the trail for the Halloween hash. It got washed away twice and nobody stayed on trail but it was still a good time.  I went on a bar crawl afterward but was so tired from laying trail in the rain that I really didn't have a very good time. 




Faye moved in on October 29th.  We have had a pretty harmonious experience of living together for the past week. Last weekend we went on a dinner date.  We did have a disagreement that night but we both got over it by the next morning.  I got a haircut that Sunday and then we went and got ice cream and had a walk. 

Work has been a bit of a grind but I am making it through.  It is just very exhausting at times but still rewarding.  I have been back at the gym consistently as well.  On some Tuesdays I go out to dinner with some male friends and we have good food and conversations. 

We have established for ourselves a comfortable routine.  She seems much more relaxed now that her commute is shorter and she comes home to a home cooked (by me) dinner every day.

I am happy I get to spend so much time with her.

CNY in the American South West

Chinese New Year brought with it some fantastic new experiences for both me and Faye.  For starters, Faye had her first experience as a tourist in the US.  It was both of our first times in each of the destinations on our trip.  Here is a brief summary of our trip. We landed in LAX on Feb 7th and stayed in a condo in Long Beach from the 7th-10th. Then we drove to Las Vegas where we stayed in a serviced apartment in the MGM Signature until the 13th.  From Vegas we drove to Grand Canyon West where we stayed at the Grand Canyon Western Ranch until the 15th.   On the night of the 15th we stayed in the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Lake Havasu City.. We then stayed the night of the 16h in The Ramsey in 29 Palms near Joshua Tree. Then we spent the 17th-18th in a guest house in Santa Clarita. Mid Autumn Festival and Golden Week Trip to Tokyo and Izu Japan

I will start this post with some fantastic news.  Faye got a tourist visa for the US!.  She applied in early September and had her appointment at the US consulate in Guangzhou on September 19th.  I took a day off to join her for moral support.  She was originally scheduled for an appointment in Hong Kong on Monday the 22nd but thanks to a last minute policy change requiring all applicants to apply in their country of origin, she was forced to cancel her appointment with no refund and reschedule in Guangzhou.  Fortunately, through a combination of our efforts and a bit of luck, it was all worth it and she got the visa.   Here she is on the way to her appointment. Halloween in Bangkok, Thanksgiving in Yangshuo, plus everything before, after, and in between.

It has been a busy couple of months since my last post.   While I may have settled into a sustainable flow state at work.  I am still quite busy during the week.  I am maintaining my fitness routine of at least 3 weekly gym days and a weekly swim.  If I skip the swim I add a gym day.   On October 19th, the day after my last post, Faye and I went for a walk and stopped at a bar where I enjoyed petting the owner's dog while we had a refreshing drink.  On October 20th the high school bio teachers got training on some new lab equipment from MiniOne.  The training was focused on gel electrophoresis but we also bought a PCR, micro-pipettes, mini centrifuges, and a bunch of other resources from them.  We took a quick weekend trip to Bangkok over the weekend of Halloween.  We departed from Shenzhen late on Friday the 31st and got back late Sunday November 2nd.  We spent our time there relaxing, shopping, and I introduced Faye to the se...
