Guangzhou Anniversary Hash in Yingde
The Guangzhou hash celebrated its anniversary on May 18th and the Shekou hashers joined in for the fun.
The hash was hosted in astounding mountains of Yingde. It was an overnight trip and involved a long bus ride so the Shekou H3 gathered at the Snake Pit at 9:20am on Saturday and departed promptly at 9:30.
Because we stopped for a pee break on the way we arrived a bit late and there was nobody to greet us. So we set off on our own to follow the trail.
The trail was good but it was not laid well. Some sections were a bit confusing and many of the Shekou hashers got turned around and missed the second beer stop. This was disappointing because the second beer stop had a swimming hole. We were all drenched from the rain already but it would have been nice to have enjoyed that.
The circle took place at a campsite where some of the hashers were staying the night. I don't envy them as they ended up sleeping on a hard floor under a pavilion since the rain was too intense to set up and sleep in a tent.
The circle was brief, I won a drinking contest, there were a few songs and accusations, and then we had dinner.
After dinner the bus took us to our hotels where we quickly put our stuff in the room and then went to the party. The party was at another hotel. The hash had booked three different accommodations. Unfortunately the party was somewhat lame and I think we would have had a lot more fun just staying at our hotel and enjoying their hot tub and pool instead of going to the party at the other hotel.
We didn't have a terrible time, but it was not as fun as we had hoped. I saw a cool toad though.
After the party I passed out with my feet still on the floor. Faye fell asleep with a facial mask on. We both woke up at 4am. The lights were still on, Faye's mask had literally disappeared, and I was still lying on the bed with my feet on the floor. I shut off the lights and we went back to sleep.
The next morning we woke up, got breakfast, took a look at the rooftop hot tubs that we missed out on, and went on the hangover run. I ultimately had a good time on the hangover run but really would have preferred to just relax at the hotel in the rooftop hot tub.
The circle and dinner after the hash was at the first beer stop from the day before.
Here you can see Faye was caught being a cutie by another hasher who was filming himself in a rice paddy.
Once dinner was over we walked part of the way back to our bus before hitching a ride on a truck.
Overall the trip was OK. I would definitely say I spent too much time dwelling on the things I didn't do instead of enjoying the things that I did. I want to go back to this area, stay at the same hotel. and take my time to really enjoy the experience.
This week at work was back to normal. AP exams were over so I was back to teaching again.
On June 1st I will be haring with another hasher, and a friend and coworker of mine, Alex (Lababa).
Here is our obscene poster.
