Bangkok trip to finish the summer, first three weeks of work, and haring in Dameisha again
As you saw from my last two posts my summer was interesting and filled with adventure.
I got an underwhelming cheeseburger for dinner and went to bed early so I could be ready for my 10:40 flight to HK the next morning. When I checked out the hotel gave me a hard time for the smell in my room. I told them I didn't smoke in the room and had done all my smoking outside (which was true). I had smoked on the balcony (but did not tell them this because they told me when I checked in that it wasn't allowed). I told them that I had thrown some of the leftover stuff in the bin and that was why the room smelled. They checked the bin and found the roaches so they decided to let the matter go. I was worried they would charge me.
Before my my summer vacation officially ended on August 12 I took a relaxing trip to Bangkok from August 6-9.
I stayed in The Quarter Phrong Phong Hotel. It was a nice place to stay. It was across the street from a great dispensary/lounge and there were plenty of bars and restaurants around. They even offered a shuttle to the mall.
I arrived in the afternoon and my first place was High Society Cannabis Club which was right across the street from my hotel. I had originally only planned to stay a short while but got stuck there when it started to downpour so I ended up spending a few hours there smoking, munching, listening to music, and just chilling.
The next morning I woke up naturally, had breakfast at the hotel, and went for a run to and around Benchakitti Park.
After the run I got a Kiwi soda.
I spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon in and beside the hotel pool.
I got a late lunch/dinner at an establishment that specializes in crab and crab dishes. I did not order a crab but I did enjoy some clams, a crab risotto, and crab foie gras.
After lunch I took a nap. Then I went for a late dinner of delicious Lebanese food before a trip to The Iron Fairies Bar.
I only had one drink before calling it a night.
On the morning of the 8th I had breakfast and spent some more time in and beside the pool. That afternoon I took the hotel shuttle to the mall and walked around in the mall for a while and got lunch. Then I took a walk outside. I picked up a little more grass and was smoking it on my walk when a couple of police officers gave me a hard time for smoking in public. I was polite and apologetic so they let me go with just a warning. They even gave me my joint back.
On the walk back to the hotel I stopped in Benchasiri park and then a rooftop bar.
I landed in HK and took the ferry back to Shenzhen. Then I had a weekend of relaxing at home before work the next week.
The return to work was filled by a week full of boring meetings which my school calls "onsite training".
After a long week of being pent up inside I got outside with the shekou hashers. Two of my friends from work, Jonathan and Felix, joined. Felix, a new friend and coworker of mine was already a named hasher. His name is Yappie Le Spew.
I recruited him to help me lay trail for my birthday hash on August 31st.
The first week with students in the building went well. It is good to be back in the swing of things.
Faye helped me scout a trail for my birthday hash last weekend but I didn't end up using that trail because it was too far away and too long. We saw a cool lizard though.
My birthday on the 28th was uneventful. I worked from 7:15-18:30. Faye bought me a cake, designed a shirt for me, and ordered me a bottle of soap. It was nice and low key.
In addition to the chill wednesday birthday celebration yesterday I hared my beerthday trail with Felix in Dameisha. We did the same trail I did with Alex in June, just backward. I didn't take any new pictures so the photos below were taken by others or were from our last time there.
The waterfall photo above is from my first time there.
Im addition to the hash, Faye and I stayed in Dameisha Marina Bay Hotel for the weekend and it was nice.
Now that I am back at work my posts will lilely follow a predicable pattern. I will post about once or twice a month as long as I have something interesting to share.
Faye and I have some fun future trip plans. We will be relaxing in Cebu in the Phillipines this September, then hiking the Kumano Kodo in Japan in October, going to a Japan/Thailand coop flea market in Bangkok in November, and the All China Nash Hash is the week after that in HK.
Lots of fun stuff coming up indeed.
